Success! ... Shaun completes his crossing of Lake Ontario.  Cheered on by friends, family and met by the press, Shaun emerges from the water, tired by upright!  After some late swim swells and Toronto boat traffic, Shaun finishes the journey he started many months ago.  He would like to thank his team of supporters for helping him achieve this amazing feat.  He plans to dry off over the next few days...

Wow
Shaun is now only 10 K away from his Toronto destination at Marilyn Bell park.
He has been swimming very strongly all night though very wavy conditions and now he is facing much colder water temperatures.
He has a pacer with him now in the water and his spirits are rising with  new day sun.
At 6:00 AM the powerboat went ahead to Toronto and we picked up his 7 year old son Liam to help cheer him on.
With luck, Shaun should make it in between 10:00 and 11:00 AM  and be greeted by the William Lyon McKenzie fireboat.
What a magnificent morning for his last leg..

Aug. 16/08 1:20 AM

It is just after 1:00 AM and Shaun has kept up a fantastic swim pace. The water has finally calmed down after 5 hours of a fierce north headwinds and large roller waves pushing him back. Generally very tough conditions.
The crews were getting seasick and Shaun's feedings were becoming more difficult so we are ALL glad to see calmer water.
He is almost 1/2 way, just 26 K to Toronto! At his pace - and he shows no sign of slowing down, we'd expect him to arrive at Marylin Bell park by 9:30 to 10AM!
More updates on that by morning.

Here is a short note from the boat in the Niagara river to let you know Shaun has departed on his marathon swim to Toronto to day Fri at 4:30 PM
The water is warm and relatively calm - good news for the swimmer.
If all goes well and thunderstorms don't threaten, Shaun will hopefully arrive in Toronto Sat anywhere from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Planned start time.  I'm about to grease up now.  Thanks everyone for your support.

Help Shaun raise funds for the Burn Unit at the Hospital for
Sick Children, Toronto.

Toronto firefighter, Shaun Chisholm, 40, is planning to swim across Lake Ontario in August 2008. The swim will fulfill a personal dream for Shaun and benefit the Burn Unit at the Hospital for Sick Children as a registered charity. This charity The Sick Kids Foundation is a popular firefighter's charity. Your support is important to the continued success for this world recognized Hospital and the fantastic care it provides our children.

Shaun will be one of the oldest male swimmers ever to attempt this crossing from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Toronto. This 31 mile swim, most of it at night, often in cold and treacherous water, is a daunting test of physical endurance. The swim starts in Niagara-on-the-Lake in the evening and if successful takes anywhere from 18 to 26 hours to complete. If Shaun completes the swim he will in fact be the second oldest Canadian male to have made it across the lake. All Lake Ontario swims are monitored by Solo Swims of Ontario -see www.soloswims.com The first person to complete the swim was Marilyn Bell in 1954.

Shaun is an Ironman (Lake Placid, N.Y. 2001), a long distance cyclist, as well as an endurance swimmer. He lives in Toronto with his firefighter wife Allison, and 2 children, Liam and Anna. Shaun would like your financial and moral support for this lake crossing planned for early in August 2008.
